Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Liberty Balloon Flights, we believe in the beauty of the natural world, and we feel a deep responsibility to protect it. As balloonists, we spend our mornings soaring gently over landscapes shaped by time, nature, and human care. We understand that the privilege of flight comes with the duty to tread lightly.
Our sustainability efforts are about more than policy – they’re part of our daily operations, our training, and the way we interact with land, people, and place. Here’s how we’re working to ensure our flights leave a positive impact on the world below. It’s a continual work in progress and sustainability is something we continue to work on and improve.
Tread Lightly & Leave No Trace
Every flight begins and ends on the ground, often in rural, agricultural, or natural areas entrusted to us by local landowners. Whether we launch from open farmland, council parks or land beside native bush, our commitment is the same: to leave the area exactly as we found it.
Our crew is trained to collect all materials, waste, and equipment with care, ensuring no litter, no damage to crops, and no disruption to native ecosystems.
We also encourage our passengers to follow the Tread Lightly code of practice. By being mindful of where we walk and how we interact with the landscape, we can all help preserve these spaces for future generations to enjoy, whether on the ground or from above.
Respect for Landholders & Local Communities
Our operations rely on the generosity and cooperation of local landowners and farmers who permit us to access their properties for landings. We honour this relationship through education, respect, and open communication.
We avoid landing on crops or areas that could be damaged or contaminated, and we instil this awareness into our crew training and passenger briefings. Respecting private property, livestock, and soil health is a vital part of our sustainability philosophy.
To us, sustainability means more than environmental care – it includes cultivating trust and long-term partnerships with the people who live and work on the land we pass over.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
We’re proud to run a modern, low-impact operation that prioritises digital tools, smart systems, and recycling practices:
- Our booking process is entirely digital, reducing paper consumption and printing waste
- Flight confirmations and vouchers are emailed or texted, avoiding unnecessary paper tickets
- We recycle print cartridges, mobile phones, and IT equipment through appropriate channels
- All drink bottles given to passengers after flights are collected and recycled responsibly
A Shared Responsibility
Sustainability is a journey, and we’re proud to bring our passengers along with us. Whether it’s taking small steps like reducing waste, or larger ones like fostering respectful partnerships with landowners, we believe that flying responsibly matters.
By choosing to fly with Liberty Balloon Flights, you’re supporting a business that believes in preserving the beauty we fly over, for those who follow after us.
