Honouring Land and Culture
At Liberty Balloon Flights, we recognise that the skies we fly through and the landscapes we drift gently over are part of lands cared for by the world’s oldest continuous living cultures. As we continue to grow, we are committed to deepening our cultural connection with the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we operate.
We acknowledge the Ballardong Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of the Avon Valley, where we fly each winter. In Melbourne and the Yarra Valley, we fly on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, and in Geelong and the Bellarine, we fly on Wadawurrung Country. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to the cultural knowledge holders of today who continue to care for these lands, skies, and stories.
Honouring Land Through Shared Knowledge
Ballooning has a natural rhythm; a close relationship with the seasons, the winds, and the land…and we’re increasingly seeking to listen, learn, and connect with the First Nations knowledge systems that have understood and respected these rhythms for tens of thousands of years.
We are proud members of WAITOC (Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council), and we’re actively exploring future collaborations with Indigenous storytellers, artists, and cultural custodians. Our vision is to weave meaningful and respectful cultural elements into our business; highlighting not only the beauty of the landscape, but the rich cultural history and vital knowledge that continues to live within it.
We know this is a journey, and we are approaching it with curiosity, respect, and a willingness to learn. As we look to the horizon, we do so with the hope of contributing to a deeper understanding and connection with Country…for ourselves, our team, and everyone who flies with us.
