How We’re Supporting the Land and Communities Beneath Us

At Liberty Balloon Flights, our work is built on the beauty of the land beneath us. Every morning, as our balloons lift into the sky, we are reminded that this privilege comes with a responsibility: to care for the places and people we fly over. From the vineyards of the Yarra Valley to the farmland outside Geelong, our operations touch more than the skies. They touch communities, ecosystems, and lives. And we believe strongly that enjoying these views comes with a duty to give back and tread lightly.

Why Community Matters

Ballooning is uniquely connected to the land. We rely on open spaces, farmland, and access to quiet rural areas. We land in paddocks generously made available by local property owners, and we work closely with regional councils, tourism operators, and landholders to ensure every flight is respectful.

This connection is part of what makes the experience special; not just for passengers, but for us. That’s why we’re committed to growing our partnerships with local businesses, environmental groups, and sustainability projects.

Looking for New Partnerships

We’re currently seeking new partnerships across our key flying regions; Melbourne, Geelong, and the Yarra Valley in Victoria and Avon Valley in Western Australia – with a focus on:

  • Local conservation projects (revegetation, landcare, wildlife habitat protection)
  • Indigenous community partnerships to respectfully acknowledge the lands we fly over
  • Sustainable tourism networks aiming to reduce footprint while enhancing experience
  • Local producers and suppliers for our post-flight experiences

Whether it’s through direct funding, volunteering, awareness-raising, or shared messaging, we want to use our platform – literally and figuratively – to spotlight those doing important work on the ground.

The Value of Flying Responsibly

We’re often asked: Is hot air ballooning eco-friendly?

While balloons use propane for lift, the overall environmental impact is comparatively low – especially when you consider that we rely on wind, not engines, to navigate. But we know that’s not enough. That’s why we’re actively reviewing our operations to reduce waste, improve energy use, and offset emissions where we can.

Supporting the land also means supporting those who live and work on it. That includes fair engagement with property owners, promoting local tourism, and hiring local wherever possible.

How You Can Get Involved

If you’re a community group, local business, or sustainability initiative working in Geelong, the Yarra Valley, or Melbourne, we’d love to hear from you. We’re not just looking for box-ticking CSR initiatives – we’re looking for real relationships that benefit everyone.

We also encourage our guests to support the regions they visit. Stay a little longer, buy local, visit nearby markets or cellar doors. Tourism has the power to uplift when it’s done thoughtfully.

Looking Ahead

Our hope is that as Liberty Balloon Flights continues to grow, so too does our impact…not just in the memories we help create, but in the footprints we choose not to leave behind.

We’re proud to call Victoria and WA home and to share it with our passengers. But more than that, we’re proud to be part of the communities we fly over. And we’re just getting started.
