Accessibility at Liberty Balloon Flights

Accessibility With Every Flight

At Liberty Balloon Flights, we welcome a wide range of passengers, typically aged 6 to 100+ – and are passionate about making the magic of ballooning as inclusive as possible. While we’re proud to have flown guests with diverse needs, we also recognise there’s still work to be done to improve accessibility across all parts of the experience.

Currently, passengers need to be able to get in and out of the basket using steps, with the assistance of our trained crew. The ability to stand for the duration of the flight – approximately one hour- is also required, as there are no fixed seats in the balloon basket. However, with prior notice, our friendly team can position passengers in areas of the basket that offer support for leaning, or arrange a small, secure stool that can be easily stored during landing, to provide additional comfort when possible.

Mobility Matters In Every Journey

The nature of ballooning also means that terrain can sometimes be uneven or soft underfoot, especially in rural areas, and getting in and out of our transport vehicles requires a reasonable level of mobility. These elements are important to consider when planning your experience.

We have flown guests who are vision or hearing impaired, those with mild cognitive disabilities, and others with specific needs. We work on a case-by-case basis, always listening carefully and communicating clearly with passengers, carers, or support people to understand how we can best assist.

We are actively reviewing ways to improve accessibility – from modifying equipment to exploring future flight options that cater to a broader range of mobility. It’s an ongoing journey, and one we’re committed to through continuous learning, listening, and thoughtful change.
