A Historic Airfield with Deep Aviation Roots

Beverley’s association with aviation dates back nearly a century.

In 1929, local aviation pioneer Selby Ford built Western Australia’s first homebuilt aircraft, the Silver Centenary… right here in Beverley.

The Beverley airfield later played an important role during World War II, serving as a satellite airstrip for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm.

Today, the site continues to honour this legacy through community events and aviation celebrations that bring history to life.

Discover the Historic Town of Beverley

Located approximately 130 kilometres east of Perth, Beverley is one of Western Australia’s oldest agricultural settlements and a proud heritage town along the Avon River.

For thousands of years, the Ballardong people lived along Colguler (Avon River), developing deep knowledge of the land through traditional practices and cultural storytelling.

Officially founded in 1838, Beverley grew as an important agricultural hub following early exploration of the region by Ensign Dale and Governor James Stirling.

Today, Beverley offers visitors:

  • Heritage buildings
  • Historic streetscapes
  • Local museums
  • Scenic countryside
  • A relaxed country-town atmosphere

It’s a wonderful place to explore before or after attending the airshow.

Make a Weekend of It in the Avon Valley

The Avon Valley is filled with scenic towns, heritage attractions, and beautiful countryside; making it the perfect region for a weekend getaway.

Visitors attending the Beverley Airshow may also enjoy exploring nearby destinations such as:

  • Northam, known for its famous white swans and river walks
  • York, Western Australia’s first inland town
  • Toodyay, a charming historic settlement

See the Avon Valley from Above

If you’re visiting the region for the airshow, it’s also the perfect opportunity to experience the Avon Valley from a completely different perspective.

A sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Avon Valley offers breathtaking views across rolling farmland, winding rivers, and historic towns – a memorable way to begin your day before heading to Beverley.

We’ll be flying across the region this weekend ourselves, making it an exciting time to see the Avon Valley from both the ground and the air.
