Balloon Flights Tasmania

Finally!! A balloon company that decides to fly in Tassie!

After many years with no hot air balloon flying over the Natural State, Liberty Balloon Flights arrived in Tasmania and put an end to the void. With  25 years of experience flying in many locations in Australia and around the World, Liberty Balloon Flights started operations on this Summer of 2018/2019.

We fly the North of the state. This can be The Tamar Valley, Launceston, Meander Valley, the Northern Midlands and Deloraine. On days with light Northerly winds we might even take off close to the coast, who knows but the wind?. We try to give you the best views on the day whilst normally targeting the Northern Midlands to land. The experience is for locals and tourists, so help us to get the word out there so we can return every Summer.

Bookings

Check the calendar to see our availability and book yourself in, contact us on info@libertyballoonflights.com.au or talk to us on 1800 BALLOON (22 55 66) to ask us about what we do. We look forwards to hearing from you!

Depending on the forecasted wind direction,
we decide the day prior to your flight if we will meet passengers at:

Woolmers Estate,
658 Woolmers Lane, Longford

or at

The Sebel Launceston,
12-14 St John Street, Launceston

Whichever location we decide on in the morning, we will return you to this location at the end of the flight

About the Experience

Yes, we start early! As early as 04:30 a.m. in the Summer and as late as 06:30 a.m. in Winter. We follow the Sun and tend to meet approximately 1½ hours before Sunrise at a convenient location which will be confirmed to you prior to the balloon flight. From here we will drive you, in our vehicles, to the launch site.

Hot air balloons float in the wind, so we have many different take off locations, depending on the wind direction on the day. We like to call the experience “audience participation” which means, if you are game and able to, there are tasks for all who want to take part in this most ancient way to fly. Half an hour is what it takes to prepare these gentle giants. Once on board we lift gently–so gently it constantly amazes passengers–you do not feel height-sick.

Ballooning is not an adrenaline sport, it is a sport where we contemplate, we admire, we see the Sun rise above the horizon, we hear the waking countryside, the city at dawn…. Ballooning is special. As an old English lady once said to us, “balloons are one of the few things built by humankind that truly enhance nature.” We enjoy what we do, and we aim to hear that you loved the morning you spent with us.

Melbourne

Melbourne, ballooning as the Sun rises

We fly hot air balloons over Melbourne at Sunrise, the safest moment of the day to do so. As balloons float in the wind, we decide each morning, after assessing the wind and weather conditions of the day, which of our many launch sites is our best option on the day. We might take off from Williamstown and drift over the city to land in parks close to the Eastern Freeway, we could take off from Albert Park and fly towards Essendon or Northcote, we could sometimes take off from Moorabbin and land at Royal Park… the options are countless.

There are days in which we do not fly so close to the CBD because conditions are not appropriate for that kind of flight and if this is the case, it is your safety and our relationship with the three airports what we are looking after. What is certain is that you will experience a balloon flight over the largest city in the entire World where these regular flights take place, and this makes your balloon flight over Melbourne a truly remarkable and unique outdoor experience. Melbourne is a lovely city, always; but when you are able to see it at sunrise from the vantage point of a balloon flight you will experience it in its full splendour. The Yarra River meandering through the city, past the Australian Open Tennis Centre, the massive MCG, the light reflecting on its modern buildings, the many parks and gardens so beautifully kept…

Melbourne proves time and time again why it so often is voted the most liveable city in the entire World and a balloon flight with LIBERTY BALLOON FLIGHTS  at Sunrise is surely the way to start a memorable day.

A day you shall never forget.

The evening BEFORE the flight, between 06:30 and 07:30 p.m. you need to call 1800-BALLOON (1800-22 55 66) to make sure your flight is going ahead. You will either talk to your pilot or a recorded message will tell you what to expect the following morning.

If the weather is suitable, we will meet at the Sofitel Hotel on 25 Collins Street as stated in your confirmation email, approximately one and a half hours before Sunrise. Yes, this is EARLY, especially in Spring and Summer when we can sometimes meet as early as 04:15 A.M. Our aim is to be in the air before Sunrise, not only to see the Sun rise from a balloon over Melbourne, but also because this is the safest moment of the day to fly, when the winds tend to be at their calmest. Our vehicles will drive you to our selected launch site where we proceed to inflate the balloon with the help of any passengers that are able and willing to participate in the preparations…this is meant to be fun and interesting. These gentle giants are MASSIVE and seeing them take shape as we first inflate them with cold air, later to heat the air with our powerful burners, is a lovely sight and experience, one which followers are welcome to come and watch as well.

Once all passengers are onboard and after a short safety briefing, we will lift off and drift in the wind for approximately one hour, give or take, as the pilot will have to manoeuvre the winds at different heights to land the balloon in one of the many locations we are allowed to land on. Our vehicle will be following us during the whole flight. After we have landed, together with willing passengers, we proceed to pack the balloon away and we will drive you back to our original meeting place where you can enjoy an optional five-star champagne breakfast, truly the best way to finish your morning with us.

Gippsland

With stunning views of the open cut mines and the coal-powered electricity generators, maybe down towards Wilson’s Promontory or the Gippsland lakes  and Sale, depending on the wind direction on the day we will plan our flights to try to give you the best views of beautiful Gippsland, where until now no commercial ballooning has ever happened. Our flights are at sunrise so we meet quite a bit earlier in a predetermined location, where you will leave your vehicles and where we will drop you off after the morning with us is over. Yes, Liberty Balloon Flights is starting operations this Summer of 2018/2019 and you’ll have the chance to see this beautiful part of Australia from the vantage point of a wicker basket which will gently suspend under a modern hot air balloon and its powerful burners. We will float in the wind (hence why we will take off from different locations) and after approximately one hour we will set down in a safe location. Please check our calendar to see availability, drop us an email on info@libertyballoonflights.com.au or call us on 1800 BALLOON (22 55 66). We’d love to hear from you!
